1. PM Modi Begins 3-Nation Visit Today, First Indian PM To Visit Palestine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left on a three nation tour on Friday that will take him to Palestine on a short, but hugely symbolic visit before traveling to United Arab Emirates and Oman. This is the first ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Palestine, and Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to UAE and first to Oman. PM Narender Modi  would be addressing the Sixth World Government Summit being held in Dubai, UAE at which India has been extended ‘Guest of Honour’ status.

2. Khelo India School Games  Haryana Tops Medal Tally.

Haryana emerged as the overall champions, finishing with 102 medals, which included 38 gold, 26 silver and 38 bronze medals. Maharashtra finished the Games with 111 medals, but due to their lower gold medal count (36), they had to contend with the second spot. Delhi finished the Games at the third position with 94 medals, which included 25 gold, 29 silver and 40 bronze.

3. Hardayal Prasad Appointed as SBI Card MD & CEO.

Hardayal Prasad has been appointed as Managing Director and CEO of SBI Card, the credit card issuer said in a statement. Prasad takes over from Vijay Jasuja who retired on January 31. His appointment is effective February 1, 2018.

6. Competition Commission of India slaps Rs 136 crore penalty on Google.

The Competition Commission of India on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs 136 crore on internet giant Search engine Google for unfair business practices in the Indian market for online search. The penalty is being imposed on Google for infringing anti-trust conduct. It was alleged that Google is indulging in abuse of dominant position in the market for online search through practices leading to search bias and search manipulation, among others.

7. India ranked 44th of 50 countries in intellectual property index.

India has improved its performance both in relative and absolute terms in the latest edition of the the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Global Innovation Policy Center’s (GIPC) ‘International IP Index,’ which analyses the intellectual property (IP) climate in 50 world economies, including India. India ranked 44th of 50 economies – a jump from 43rd of 45 economies one year ago, according to the sixth edition of the Index.

The top 3 countries on the list are  The USA, The United Kingdom and Sweden.

India’s overall score has increased substantially from 25% in the 5th edition of the Index to 30% in the 6th edition, according to the annual report prepared by the Global Innovation Policy Centre (GIPC) of the US Chambers of Commerce.

 

8. South Central Railway becomes 1st rail zone with 100% LED lighting at stations.

The South Central Railway (SCR) has become the first railway zone in the country to complete 100 per cent LED lighting at all the stations under its jurisdiction.

The SCR has been on the forefront of adopting energy conservation measures. It has attained the status of becoming the first zone in the Indian Railways to complete 100 per cent LED lighting in all the 733 stations under its jurisdiction
